The Neptunian had a gross register tonnage of 5,155 and was built in 1925. Part of home-ward bound Convoy SC2, comprising 53 ships, on voyage from Santiago to Liverpool via Sydney with a cargo of sugar. In the North-west Approaches, NW of Rockall, she was torpedoed by U-47 on the 07/09/40 and sank in position - 58.27N 17.27W. There were 0 survivors, and 36 crew/passengers were lost. Had three other brothers in the forces, two of whom were lost - Petty Officer Joseph Arnold, was lost in H.M.S. Exeter in March 1942; Flt. Sgt.
