Fireman & Trimmer. The Ocean Courage was built in 1942, its gross register tonnage was 7,173, it was a cargo ship on charter to the British Ministry of War Transport. In the Atlantic, 200 miles south of the Cape Verde Islands, travelling independantly from Pepel to the U.K. via Freetown and Trinidad, with a cargo of 9,000 tons of iron ore and mail, she was torpedoed by U-182 and sunk in position 10.52N 23.28W. 7 of her crew were rescued by the British ship Silver Walnut and landed at Norfolk, Virginia, but 44 crew, plus 2 stowaways were lost. |
