Adopted son of Herbert Lloyd & Elizabeth Mercer. Formerly resided in Salford but now his home is at Sale Moor. Joined the RAF when he was just 16 years of age and had flown on 27 bombing and reconnaisance raids before being killed. Flying with 49 Sqn, they took off from R.A.F. Scampton, Lincolnshire, in a Hampden Mk.I, No. AD909 EA, on a 'Gardening' operation. The four crew were lost without trace and are commemorated at Runnymede. Death reported in the 03/07/1942 edition of the Sale & Altrincham Guardian which includes a photograph of him. |
