Born during the September quarter 1915 in the Chorlton R.D. - ref: 8c/1538,
the only child of Wiliam Henry & Eveline Nurse (nee Head).

1939 National Registration - 7 Appleton, Edale Grove, Sale.   William H.
Nurse - Married - born on the 7th October 1856 - occ: Insurance Agent.  
Eveline Nurse - Married - born on the 8th September 1883 - occ: Unpaid
Domestic Duties.    Alan Hurse - Single - born on the 9th August 1915 -
occ: Clerk in Public Health Department.

Obtained the following qualifications - C.R.S.T.,  A.S.L.A..,  A.R.S.I.

On joining the Royal Navy, he trained as a Coder - enciphering and
deciphering secure messages. 

RoH 09/06/1944 edition of the local newspaper.

In June 1942, anti-aircraft destroyer H.M.S. "Hermione", was supporting a
relief convoy No. MW11, escorting HMS "Vigorous" to Malta.

She was torpedoed by 'U.205' at 01.27hrs on 16/06/42 south of Crete in
position 33.30N 26.10E, whilst escorting H.M.S. "Vigorous".   It was a
'Dido' class AA cruiser, one of 16 built between 1939 & 1943.  They had a
displacement of 5,450 tons and a complement of 550 personnel.
