Attended Glebelands Rd School.  Employed  as an Apprentice at a Broadheath
Engineering Firm.

Joined the RN in 1939 and was on Russian Convoy protection.

H.M.S. Edinburgh was first damaged by a torpedo from 'U.456' on the
30/04/42.   It was again torpedoed on the 02/05/42 by the German destroyer
'Z.24' in the Barents Sea, in position - 72.05N 35.02E, it was abandoned at
05.50hrs and scuttled by H.M.S. Foresight - 58 men lost.
It was a 'Town' class (Group III) light cruiser, of which only 2 were built
between 1937 & 1939.    They had a displacement of 10,000 tons and a
complement of 850 personnel.

Article in 10/07/42 edition of the local newspaper states that his Mother
had received a letter from the Captain of H.M.S. "Edinburgh to the effect
that A. Seaman Holt had been killed when the first torpedo hit the ship.

States that his mother was Mrs. Isles of 1 Rivershill, Glebelands Rd.    A
RoH ref in the local newspaper dated 28/04/44 states that his Mother's name
was Olive ???
