Formerly from Chorlton, he attended William Hulme Grammar School. The family had lived in Sale for 7 years at the time of his death. Before the war he had spent 6 months in Argentina with the OXO Co. He returned to the UK and volunteered for the RAF in October 1940. Air Gunner. They took off from Moreton in the Marsh for a night navigation detail. The aircraft crashed at 0025 hrs at Orchardleigh Park, some two miles NW from Frome, Somerset, following an uncontrollable fire in the starboard engine. The pilot, Sgt Clark RNZAF, was also killed and is buried in his home town of Glasgow. The other crew crew member to be killed was Sgt Cook and he is buried at St. Mary's Churchyard, Frinton on Sea. |
