Native of Peel Green. Lived in Sale for 8 years. Employed as a Signalman for the MSJ & A Railway Co. Member of the Manchester YMCA. A keen boxer and golfer. Volunteered for the services at the outbreak of war, but not called up until 1942. He was trained in South Africa. At the time of his death, he was serving with the South East Asia Command based in India. Kia during a mine laying operation. 159 Sqn was detailed to the following airfields, w.e.f. July 1944, flying Liberato Mk 5's - Jessore, east of Calcutta, India; Akyab, western Burna; China Bay, north-eastern Ceylon; Drigh Road, Karachi, India; Pegu, southern Burma. |
