His body was washed ashore on the 12/07/41 and local newspaper states that he was buried at Sandoen, Stavanger, Norway. He had been in the RAF for 10 years and had been posted to Coastal Command. Flying with 224 Sqn he and his crew took off at 06.25 hours from RAF Leuchars in a Hudson bomber - N7270 - No. QX-V to bomb an ammunition dump at Soma, Norway. They were shot down by flak at about 0900 hrs off Stavanger, Norway. Pilot Officer Greenaway and Corporal A.J. Hull were buried in the Sona Churchyard. The bodies of the two other crew members - Sgt. S.G.H. Stephens and LAC A.F. King were never recovered and they are both commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial. |
