Joined the RAFVR in 1941 and was sent to Southern Rhodesia for training.

Flying with 7 Sqn, they took off at 1939hrs from R.A.F. Oakington,
Cambridgeshire, in a Lancaster Mk.III, No. JA849 MG-F on a bombing
operation over Hannover.  Flt. Sgt Woodcock was on his 43rd operation  7
Sqn was one of the 'Pathfinder' Sqns and they were shot down by a
night-fighter and crashed at Osteressen, 5 km NNW of Quakenbrück, where
the 6 that died were originally buried (the 7th crew member - the only
Canadian on board, survived to be taken prisoner).   They were later
re-buried in the Rheinberg Cem.
Three members of this crew were awarded the D.F.C. and these were announced
in the London Gazette on the 10th September, 15th October & 10th December
1943.

7 Sqn were posted to Oakington on 29/10/40 where they originally flew
Stirling Mk I A/c.  Lancaster Mk I & Mk III were introduced in May 1943 and
flown by 7 Sqn for the duration of the war.

His younger brother Dennis was also in the RAFVR.
