Born during the March quarter 1894 in the Salford R.D. - ref: 8d/176, the eldest son of William Lawrence & Elizabeth Jane Ramscar (nee Higgins). 1901 Census - 10 Dean Road, Salford. Son - aged: 7 - born: Salford. Head of household - William J. Ramscar - Married - aged: 35 - occ: Engineer's Labourer - born: Salford. Also - Eliza J. Ramscar - Wife - aged: 28 - occ: Coal Yard Manageress - born: Fleetwood, Lancashire. Plus 2 younger sisters. His mother died in 1905, aged: 32. 1911 Census - 29 Dorset Street, Salford. Nephew to Head - aged: 17 - occ: Iron Planer - born: not recorded. His father - William L. Ramscar was lised as Brother to Head. Widowere - aged: 49 - occ: Machine Man at Cable Works - born: Fleetwood ???? Plus 1 younger brother, aged: 7. His parents had produced five children, of whom two had been lost. The head of the house hold was his paternal uncle - James Ramscar and his wife - Jane and their four children. Married Sarah Ann Dale during the September quarter 1913 in the Chorlton R.D. - ref: 8c/1707. Frederick enlisted in WWW1. His MIC states that he first served in the 2nd Battalion, Border Regiment - No. 4393, later serving in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers - No. 42619. He was posted to France on the 26th November 1914, thereby missing out on a 1914 Star by just four days. He was awarded the 15 Star, the BWM & the VM. Frederick enlisted again in WW2, this time because of his age, (aged: 45 in 1939) into the Pioneers Corps. Warrant Officer Class 2 - C.S.M. He resided at Sale Moor at the time of his WW2 enlistment. |
