Born on the 26th March 1890, the birth being registered during the June
quarter 1890 in the Barton upon Irwell R.D. - ref: 8c/682, the youngest son
of son of Michael & Amelia Benson (nee Morgan).

1891 Census - 98 Church Road, Urmston.  Son - aged: 2 - born: Urmston.  
Head of household - Michael Benson - Married - aged: 37 - occ: Commercial
Traveller - born: Halifax, Yorkshire.   Also Amelia Benson - Wife - aged:
41 - born: Manchester.   Plus 5 siblings (including his eldest brother -
William Arthur Benson - aged: 7, who was also killed during WW1) and a
maternal aunt.

Attended St. Clements P.C. Day School, Urmston.

Head of household - Michael Benson - Married - aged: 47 - occ: Commercial
Traveller (Drysalter) - born: Halifax, Yorkshire.   Also Amelia Benson -
Wife - aged: 50 - born: Manchester.   Plus 4 siblings (including eldest
brother - William Arthur Benson - aged: 16, who was also killed during
WW1).

1911 Census - 90 Church Road, Urmston.   Son - aged: 21 - occ: Bank Clerk -
born: Urmston.    Head of household - Michael Benson - Married - aged: 57 -
occ: Commercial Traveller (Drysalter) - born: Halifax, Yorkshire.   Also
Amelia Benson - Wife - aged: 61 - born: Manchester.   Plus 2 elder
brothers.

On leaving school he joined the Head Office of the Manchester, Liverpool &
District Bank in August 1906.   He left their employment in  Novemebr 1914
to enlist in the R.A.M.C.

Death reported in the Manchester Evening News, dated: 11th May 1917.

Pension Records - No Trace

SDGW states that he died of wounds and does not mention his Military
Medal.

Commemorated on the private family gravestone in Urmston Cem, which states
that he died at Monchy..

His father, Michael died 09/01/1933 aged 79 years and his mother, Amelia
died 30/05/1923 aged 74 years.

His brother, William Arthur also died on active service.

M.I. - "He lived a straight life, he fought the good fight & won his
crown".
