Born on the 21st April 1897, the birth being registered during the June
quarter 1897 in the Barton upon Irwell R.D. - ref: 8c/690, the son of
William Henry & Emma Tweedale (nee Stott).

1901 Census - 59 Clifton Road, Eccles.   Son - aged: 3 - born: Eccles.  
Head of household - William H. Tweedale - Married - aged: 45 - occ: Waste
Dealer - born: Newton Heath, Lancashire.  Also - Emma Tweedale - Wife -
aged: 40 - born: Manchester.   Plus 1 elder brother.

1911 Census - 4 Lostock Road, Urmston - Son - aged: 14 - Scholar - born:
Monton Green, Lancashire.   Head of household - William Henry Tweedale -
Married - aged: 53 - occ: Cotton Salesman - born: Failsworth, Lancashire.  
 Also - Emma Tweedale - Wife - aged: 50 - born: Manchester.  Plus 2
siblings.

Studied Electrical English at Manchester University in 1913.  A member of
their Officer Training Corps from October 1914 to May 1915.   Gazetted on
the 15th May 1915 into the 13th Battalion, West Yorks Regiment, attached to
the 16th Battalion.  Second Lieutenant at Egypt before being posted to
France in 1916.

WO339/41903 - Enlissted on the 20th August 1914.   Then residing at Alaska
House, 18 Lostock Road, Davyhulme.    Letters of Administration granted to
his father on the 28th November 1916 by the Lancaster Probate Office.   
His Estate was valued at £176.4s. 9d.

The 16th Battalion (1st Bradford), Prince of Wales' Own (West Yorkshire
Rgt) were part of 93 Brigade, 31st Division who were attacking Serre on the
1st July.  They went behind the 15th Battailion, leaving their trenches at
07.35 hrs and suffered heavy losses before reaching the British front line,
suffering 537 casualties.

Post war, his parents resided at "Serre", Cliff Place, Bispham, Lancashire.
  Many parents named their houses after the place their sons were killed.

His parents house was originally called "The Cot", post-war named "Serre"
(where Eric was killed)
