Born during the September quarter 1897 in the Nantwich R.D. - ref: 8a/365, the son of Thomas Harcourt & Mary Alice Smith nee Bolderston). 1901 Census - No Trace. 1911 Census - 23 St. Andrew's Avenue, Timperley. Son - aged: 13 - Scholar - born: Nantwich, Cheshire. Head of household - Thomas Harcourt Smith - Married - aged: 42 - occ: Corn Miller - born: Crewe, Cheshire. Also Mary Alice Smith - Wife - aged: 43 - born: Nantwich. Plus 4 siblings. Married Nellie Hill during the September quarter 1932 in the Barton on Irwell R.D. - ref: 8c/1445. 1939 National Registration - 6 Clifton Street, Stretford. William H. Smith - Married - born: 10th July 1897 - occ: Joiner Bench & Fixing. Nellie Smith - Married - born: 4th June 1898 - occ: Unpaid Domestic Duties. His wife - Nellie, was also killed in this incident. Killed when a land mine landed on Stanley Road, Old Trafford. This was the worst single incident in terms of loss of life in the whole of Greater Manchester during WW2.
