Born Willy Whipp during the March quarter 1891 in the Chorlton R.D. - ref:
8c/765. the second son of James Edward & Annie Whipp (nee Lowe).

months - born: Manchester.     Head of household - James E. Whipp - Married
- aged: 29 - occ: Leather Dealer & Ink Manufacturer - born: Salford.   Also
- Annie Whipp - Wife - aged: 26 - born: Manchester.  Plus his elder brother
- James Leonard Whipp - aged: 2 - born: Manchester.     Plus his paternal
aunt.

1901 Census - 65 Charlton Street, Moss Side, Manchester.    Son - aged: 10
months - born: Manchester.     Head of household - James E. Whipp - Married
- aged: 39 - occ: Leather Merchant - born: Salford.   Also - Annie Whipp -
Wife - aged: 36 - born: Manchester.  Plus 3 brothers including James
Leonard Whipp - aged: 11 - born: Manchester.   James Leonard Whipp was also
killed during WW1.

1911 Census - No Trace.     His family was now residing at High Bank,
Church Lane, Ashton upon Mersey.   Head of household - James E. Whipp -
Married - aged: 49 - occ: Managing Director, Leather Factor - born:
Salford.   Also - Annie Whipp - Wife - aged: 46 - born: Manchester.  Plus 2
brothers including James Leonard Whhipp - aged: 21 - occ: Shop Manager,
Leather Factor.    James Leonard Whipp was also killed during WW1.

Member of Sale Baptist Church, Oakfield.    Emigrated to Canada 6 years
previously and became a successful Farmer in the neighbourhood of Moose
Jaw, Saskatchewan.

His brother - Leonard RFC died in a motorcycle accident in 1915 and his
other brother - Roland was serving with the RGA.

His Canadian attestation form, signed on the 21st October 1914, at Moose
Jaw, Saskatchewan, states that he was aged 23 years 11 months, 5 feet 9½
inches in height, had a 35½/2 inch chest (fully expanded).   His
complexion was: fair, his eyes: hazel and his hair: dark brown.    The
papers also state that he was a Farmer by trade and that, he had previously
served for 3 years in the Army.

Religion - Baptist.      He was unmarried and listed his father - James
Edward Whipp, Ashton on Mersey, Cheshire, as his next of kin.

Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1917.

Killed in action at Courcellette, Somme.   Death reported in the 29/09/1916
edition of the Altrincham Guardian.

Post War his parents resided at "Edale", 61 Carlton Road, Ashton upon
Mersey.

Commemorated on the family gravestone in Sale Cemetery.   His father -
James E. Whipp died on the 6th October 1924, aged: 62 years and his mother
-Annie Whipp, died on the 15th February 1944, aged: 79 years.
