Born during the June quarter 1879 in the Bangor R.D. - ref: 11b/539, the
son of Robert & Margaret Roberts.

born: Bangor.  Also Margaret Roberts - Wife - aged: 26 - born: Liverpool.

born: Menai Bridge, Wales.   Head of household - Robert Roberts - aged: 36

Married Elizabeth Roberts at the Registry Office, Prestwich on the 25th
July 1903.

1911 Census - 24 Victoria Street, Miles Platting, Manchester.   Head of
household - Married - aged: 31 - occ: Brass Finisher's Labourer - born:
Anglesey, North Wales.   Also Elizabeth Roberts - Wife - aged: 30 - born:
Wolverhampton, Stafforsdshire.   Plus their daugher - Martha Roberts -
aged: 3 - born: Manchester.

By 1914, the family had moved from Hulme to 2 Spring Cottages, Glebelands
Road, Ashton upon Mersey

WO363 - He attested and was medically examined at Manchester on the 28th
April 1915 into the 19th battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers No.29036.  Posted
to Deganwy on the 20th May 1915.  Aged: 35 years 11 months employed as a
Collier.   He was 5 feet 1 inch in height, weighed 116 lb with an expanded
chest measurement of 35 inches.  He had a "Martha" tattoo on his right
forearm and "Lizzie" on his left forearm.  His next of kin was given as
Elizabeth Roberts, 8 Coleman Street, Hulme, Manchester.  He married
Elizabeth Roberts at the Register Office, Prestwich, Manchester on the 25th
July 1903.  They had one daughter - Martha Roberts, born: 8th March 1908. 
He completed 3 years, 76 days service.

Posted to France in June 1916 in the 19th Bn, Manchester Rgt. and was
engaged in the Battle of the Ancre, part of the Somme 1916 offensive.  He
was also involved in the later actions at Cambrai and the capture of
Bourlon Wood.  Following the German Offensive in the Spring of 1918, his
battalion was disbanded and he was transferred into 10th Bn, Sherwood
Foresters.

 Part of 51st Brigade, 17th (Northern) Division.

His effects were sent to Mrs. Elizabeth Roberts, 2 Spring Cottages,
Glebelands Road, Ashton upon Mersey.  His widow was granted a weekly
pension of £1. 5s. 0d.

MIC - confirms his RWF service and his later service with the Sherwood
Foresters.
