Born during the December quarter 1893 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/165,
the youngest son of henry & Elizabeth Howarth (nee Kellsall).

1901 Census - 59 Marsland Road, Sale.   Son - aged: 7 - born: Timperley.  
Head of household - Henry Howarth - Married - aged: 54 - occ: Commission
Agent (Dry Goods) - born: Middleton, Lancashire.   Also Elizabeth Howarth -
Wife - aged: 44 - born: Middleton, Lancashire.   Plus 5 siblings (including
Thomas Howarth who was also killed during WW1) and 1 domestic servant.

1911 Census - 59 Marsland Road, Sale.   Son - aged: 17 - occ: Apprentice
Warehouseman - born: Timperley.   Head of household - Henry Howarth -
Married - aged: 44 - occ: Manufacturers Agent - born: Middleton,
Lancashire.   Also Elizabeth Howarth - Wife - aged: 54 - born: Middleton,
Lancashire.   Plus 4 siblings (including Thomas Howarth who was also killed
during WW1).

Employed by Messrs. George Perak & Co, Portland St, Manchester.      A
member of St. Anne's Christian Brotherhood.

WO363 - Enlisted into the 3rd Bn, Manchester Rgt on the 4th September 1914 
   He was aged: 20 years, 11 months.   He was 5  feet 3 1/2 inches in
height and weighed 108 lb.  Chest measurements 31 1/2 to 34 inches. 
Complexion: Fresh.  Eyes: Grey.  Hair: Brown.   Drafted to France on the
8th November 1916.   The records state that he was buried in Bernafay Wood
Cemetery, 3 miles west of Combles. 

Death reported in the 28/07/1916 edition  of the Altrincham Guardian which
states that his father lived at "Fern Lea", Marsland Rd, Sale.

Killed at Trônes Wood.

His brother Thomas was serving with the Royal Fusiliers (Public Schools'
Bn).   Edward and his brother Thomas, were killed two days apart.

SDGW states that he was in the 18th Bn

CWGC - Son of Henry & Elizabeth Howarth of "Bowlee"  Moss Lane, Ashton upon
Mersey.

Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1917.

Commemorated on the family gravestone in Sale Cemetery - I.382.

Pension Records - Dependant - Henry Howarth (father), 59 Marsland Road,
Sale.  This is a joint pension card for both Edward and his brother -
Thomas Howarth.    It states that Edward was serving with the 18th Bn (not
the 13th Bn) of the Manchester Rgt and that Thomas was serving with the
Lancashire Fusiliers.   There are no details of grants or pension awarded.
