Born during the September quarter 1897 in the Chorlton R.D. - ref: 8c/824,
the son of Charles Edwin & Martha Hill (nee Pietersen).

1901 Census - 10 Beech Street, Gorton, Manchester.   Son - aged: 3 - born:
No place given.   Head of household - Charles E. Hill - Married - aged: 30

- Martha Hill - Wife - aged: 35 - born: Manchester.   Plus 1 elder sister
and a maternal uncle.

1911 Census - Grange Road, Ashton upon Mersey.   Son - aged: 13 - Scholar -
born: Manchester.   Head of household - Charles E. Hill - Married - aged:
40 - occ: School Board Attendance Officer - born: Rotherham, Yorkshire.

sister.

His father was the School Attendance Officer for Sale and the family
resided at "Hollybank", 27 Grange Road, Ashton upon Mersey.

Attended St. Mary's P.C. School.   Employed by George Peak & Co, Portland
Street, Manchester as a Wholesale Drapery Salesman.

Member of Barkers Lane Wesleyan Sunday School.

Enlisted and mobilised in October 1916.   Initially trained as a Gunner in
the R.F.A. - formerly 187011.   Posted to France in January 1917 landing at
Boulogne.   After further training (Etaples?) he was transferred to the 1st
Bn, Loyal North Lancashire Rgt.  Involved in the Battles in the Arras area,
before moving up to Belgian Flanders, where he was killed in the final
actions to take Passchendaele.

Death reorted in the 21/12/1917 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.

Commemorated on the family gravestone in Sale Cemetery.
