Born on the 8th June 1892, the birth being registered during the September
quarter 1892 in the Oldham R.D. - ref: 8d/614, the son of John Wesley &
Martha Meldrum (nee Shaw).

In 1891, his parents were residing at "Cornhill", Belgrave Road, Oldham
which was probably George's birthplace.

1901 Census - "Avondale", Barrington Road, Altrincham.   Son - aged: 8 -
born: Oldham.  Head of household - John W. Meldrum - Married - aged: 50 -
occ: Mechanical Engineer - born: Runcorn, Cheshire.   Also Martha Meldrum -
Wife - aged: 41 -  born: Elland, Yorkshire.   Plus 5 siblings and 1
domestic servant.

1911 Census - "Eversley", Dunham Road, Altrincham.   Son - aged: 18 - occ:
Apprentice Pattern Maker - born: Oldham.   Head of household - John Wesley
Meldrum - Married - aged: 60 - occ: Works Manager of Engineering Works -
born: Runcorn, Cheshire.   Also Martha Meldrum - Wife - aged: 51 -  born:
Elland, Yorkshire.   Plus 5 siblings and 2 domestic servants.

The family moved around the area, Altrincham, then Brooklands, then
Altrincham again before settling at hSyrian House", Moss Lane, Ashton upon
Mersey.

Originally enlisted in the Northern Battalion, of the University & Public
Schools Brigade, later the 20th Bn, Royal Fusiliers.  Posted to France on
the 13th November 1915.   He served throughout the Battle of the Somme 1916
after which he moved up the Arras area in 1917, where he was killed.

Listed as C.W. Meldrum on the Sale Wesley Chapel Memorial and listed as "W.
Meldrum" on the Sale C.C. Memorial
