Trafford

Born during the September quarter 1892 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref:
8a/193, the youngest son of Henry Adams & Elizabeth Gray (nee Hampson).

His paternal grandfather died when his father was only three years of age,
but the family continued to reside on his grandfather's farm in
Leicestershire.   In the mid-1870s his father moved from Leicestershire
over to Ashton upon Mersey.  It was here that he met Elizabeth Hampson, the
sister of Thomas Hampson who ran a Grocer's shop on Cross Street.   He
married Elizabeth in 1877.

Assistant - born: Ashton upon Mersey.    Head of household - Henry A. Gray
- Married - aged: 47 - occ: Grocer Shopkeeper - born: Leicester.   Also
Elizabeth Gray - Wife - aged: 50 - born: Altrincham.   Plus - 8 siblings, ,
including Thomas William & Leonard who were also killed during WW1.

1911 Census - 58 School Road, Sale.   Son (listed as William Gray) - Son -
aged: 18 - occ: Buyer's Assistant Shippers - born: Ashton upon Mersey.  
Head of household - Henry A. Gray - Married - aged: 57 - occ: Grocer
Shopkeeper - born: Leicester.   Also Elizabeth Gray - Wife - aged: 61 -
born: Altrincham.   Plus - 8 siblings, including Thomas William & Leonard
who were also killed during WW1.

His mother Elizabeth Gray, died on 04/07/1914 aged 65.

Employed by Reis & Co, Shippers, Whitworth St, Manchester.

Enlisted in August 1914 and drafted to the front in November 1915.

Died of gunshot wounds received in France on the 20th July.   He had a
badly fractured leg and arm, plus head injuries, complicated by pneumonia. 
    His brother in law - Private Victor Harris was also wounded at the same
time, as was Private Harris's brother, Sergeant Frank Harris.

Death reported in  the 29/08/1916 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.

Names spelt 'Grey' on SDGW.    

Commemorated on the private family gravestone in St. Martin's Ref: 5b.47.  
M. I. on Family Gravestone in St Martin's "Son of the above - "Nobly he did
his duty; Bravely he fought and fell; Yet in our hearts we mourn, the loss;
Of one we loved so well".

Post War, his father Henry Adams resided at 109 Holmfield Rd, Glynn Estate,
Blackpool, he died 06/02/1934 aged 80.
