the son of John Frederick & Hannah Brookes (nee Gresty).

of household - Frank F. Brookes - Married - aged: 32 - occ: House Painter -
born: Hulme, Manchester.   Also - Hannah Brookes - Wife - aged: 33 - born:
Sale.   Plus 6 siblings.

Employed at Mr. Joseph Axon's, Boot & Shoe Repair shop which was on School
Road, Sale.

Member of the St. Ann's (Sale) Christian Brotherhood.

WO363 - Employed as a Boot Maker, he attested at Sale on the 14th February
1916.   Mobilised into the 14th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment at Chester on
the 13th March 1916, aged: 23 years 84 days.   Height: 5 feet 4½ inches - 
Weight: 136 lb - Expanded chest: 35½ inches with a 3½ inch expansion.  
Embarked for France on the 19th July 1916.   Arrived in France and into
No.4 I.B.D. (Infantry Base Depot) at Rouen on the 20th.   Posted into the
13th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment in the field on the 27th July 1916.   
Wounded on the 20th August 1916 and admitted into No.11 C.C.S. (Casualty
Clearing Station), having received a shrapnel wound from a shell.  
[C.C.S's naturally moved arround the battlefields, wherever they were
needed, but between the 16th August and the 16th October 1916, No.11 was
situated at Gezaincourt].  Into 1/3 W.R. F.A. on the 22nd and into No.23
General Hospital at Etaples on the 23rd.  Transferred to 6 C.D. on the 4th
September 1916.

His brother, John Frederick Brookes is serving in the RN.

Wounded on the 24th October 1916.   Died in hospital on the 28th.
