orn at Sale on the 3rd May 1882, the birth being registered during the June
quarter 1882 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/189, the 3rd son of Thomas
Daniel & Margaret Baines (nee Pennington).

His mother Margaret Baines died at the end of 1888 - aged: 33.   His father
then married Mary Ann Elizabeth Hill at St. Martin's P.C. during the
December quarter 1889  in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/224.

1891 Census - 3 Partington Place, School Road, Sale.   Son - aged: 9 -
Scholar - born: Sale.   Head of household - Thomas Daniel Baines - Married
- aged: 35 - occ: Game Dealer - born: Manchester.   Also - Mary Ann
Elizabeth Baines - Wife - aged: 32 - born: Manchester.   Plus 3 siblings, 1
half-sibling and 1 general servant.

1901 Census - 3 Partington Place, School Road, Sale.   Son - aged: 18 -
occ: Fishmonger & Poulterer - born: Sale.   Head of household - Thomas D.
Baines - Married - aged: 45 - occ: Fishmonger & Game Dealer - born:
Manchester.   Also - Mary A. E. Baines - Wife - aged: 43 - born:
Manchester.   Plus 3 siblings, 2 half-siblings and 1 domestic servant.

Married - Sarah Alice Kelsall on the 10th October 1910 at St. Paul's P.C.
the marriage being registered during the December quarter 1910 in the
Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/370.

1911 Census - 24 Belgrave Road, Sale.   Head of household - Married - occ:
Fishmonger - born: Sale.   Also - Sarah Alice Baines - Wife - aged: 26 -
born: Stretford.   His father and step-mother were still residing at 3
Partington Place at this time.

His father was a Poulterer and Fishmonger and had his shop at 95 School
Raod, Sale for over 40 years.

MIC - BWM & VM only, no other info.

It would appear that by 1916, Sarah had moved from Sale to 80 Lacey Street,
Stretford as their daughter - Irene Margaret Baines was born there on the
6th July 1916. 

His Battalion was engaged in the Battle of Messines and was in the area of
Neuve Eglise when Richard was wounded and admitted to the No.2 C.C.S.
(Casualty Clearing Station), Bailleul where he died the following day.  The
Battalion War Diary records that three men had been killed on the 15th and
15 men wounded.

Death reported in the 22/06/1917 edition of the Altrincham Guardian -
reported that he had DoW received in action "last week".

Also named on the Stretford Cenotaph and Commemorated in the Stretford Town
Memorial Book.

Commemorated on the family gravestone in Stretford Cemetery M.I. - "Though
far away thy grave to see, but not too far, to think of thee".

Flanders M.I. - "Remembrance not for a day, but for ever".

Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1918, which states
that he lived at Stretford.
