Born during the March quarter 1890 in the Chester R.D. - ref: 8a/409, the son of William Arthur & Isabella Maria Lewis (nee Huntington). 1891 Census - Jasmine Farm, Main Road, Hapsford, Cheshire. Son - aged: 1 - born: Hapsford. Head of household - William A. Lewis - Married - aged: 43 - occ: Farmer - born: Hapsford. Also - Isabella Lewis - Wife - aged: 34 - born: Poulton cum Spittal, Cheshire. Plus 4 siblings, a farm servant and a general servant. 1901 Census - Duttons Lodge, Dutton, Cheshire. Son - aged: 11 - born: Hapsford. Head of household - William A. Lewis - Married - aged: 55 - occ: Agricultural Labourer - born: Hapsford. Also - Isabella Lewis - Wife - aged: 43 - born: Poulton cum Spittal, Cheshire. Plus 8 siblings. 1911 Census - 39 Dane Road, Sale. Son - aged: 21 - occ: Horseman on Farm - born: Hapsford. Enlisted on the 14th November 1914. MIC - Drafted to France on the 3rd May 1915. Awarded the BWM - 15 Star & VM. Killed whilst taking up rations to the front line trenches - he and another were killed instantly and four others were wounded. Death reported in the 16/11/1917 edition of the Altrincham Guardian. Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1918, which states that he was a Corporal. |
