Attended Lymm Grammar School. He was an active member of St. Mary's Church. Joined the Royal Horse Guards in 1939 and transferred to the RAF. Received his Wings after only six months training and was posted as a Navigation Instructor. Local newspaper report on his death states that he was with 77 Sqn. However, from the 22nd October 1945, No. 77 Sqn was stationed at RAF MAURIPUR, located 10km north of Karachi and operated as a Royal Air Force base from 1943 until the formation of Pakistan, in 1947. The CWGC states he was with 158 Sqn. This Sqn was stationed at Stradishall, Suffolk from the 17th August 1945 which was, from that month, part of Transport Command ??? His father was a member of the Sale Home Guard. |
