Born on the 28th January 1918, the birth being registered simply as Donald
Grant, during the March quarter 1918 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/234, the
son of John & Christina Hunter Grant (Thomson).

The family moved into one of the recently built houses - No. 14 Barwell
Road, Ashton upon Mersey.

Attended Stretford Grammar School.   For four years he was apprenticed to
Dean & Sons (builders), Sale.   Member of Ashton on Mersey Cricket Club.  
One of the original members of No. 9 Platoon, 23rd Cheshire Home Guard.  
Engaged on aircraft work prior to joining the armed forces.  Joined the
Metro-Vicker's Company as an Aircraft Woodworker in March 1942 and employed
in the Aircraft Department.  

1939 National Registration - 14 Barwell Road, Ashton upon Mersey.    John
Grant - Married - born on the 31st May 1874 - occ: Master Lift Engineer.   
Christine H. Grant - Married - born on the 30th April 1880 - occ: Unpaid
Domestic Duties.   Donald Y. Grant - Single - born on the 28th January 1918
- occ: Joiner Bench Hand.   

Joined the Grenadier Guards in July 1943.

Accidentally killed in England in September 1943 and died at a Military
Hospital in Surrey (Caterham???).

Death reported in the 24/09/1943 edition of the Sale & Stretford Guardian.
