Trafford

Born during the December quarter 1918 in the Chorlton R.D. - ref: 8c/1220,
the son of James & Bertha Choularton (nee Powell).

No record of any incident with HMS Thrasher on the date of his death.

Web-site - http://uboat.net/allies/warships/ship/3501.html shows that the
Thrasher was out of service at that time.
6 Dec 1942 - departs from Gibraltar for the U.K.     14 Dec 1942 - arrives
at Falmouth.    17 Dec 1942 - departs from Falmouth for Portsmouth     18
Dec 1942 - arrives at Fort Blockhouse, the submarine base at Portsmouth.   
 20 Dec 1942 - arrives at Sheerness. She started a refit at Chatham
Dockyard two days later.

18 Sep 1944 - departs from Holy Loch for a work up patrol. This is the
first patrol of her third commission. It's an anti-submarine patrol in the
Norwegian Sea.

James is buried in a collective grave with Paymaster Lt. Commander R.G.
Brett who died on 04/07/1944 who was from HMS Irwell RNVR Shore Station at
Morpeth Dock, Birkenhead.

Also in the collective grave is the remains of Able Seaman F.N. Nixon who
died on 22/07/1944 who was from HMS Coila, of which I have no further
information.   All three died on separate dates and seemingly from natural
causes.
