Trafford

Born on the 3rd May 1913 at Read's Cottages, Chapel Lane, Ashton upon
Mersey, the birth being registered during the June quarter 1913 in the
Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/351, the son of John Broadhurst and Ann Jane Collins
(nee Gatley).   He was baptised at St. Martin's P.C. Ashton upon Mersey on
the 12th November 1913.

His father served in France throughout WW1, returning in 1919 by which time
John was now aged: 7.

He attended St. Martin's Church School.   The family moved to Windsor
Terrace, Chapel Lane.

Employed by William Morris, a local master butcher.

He enlisted in the Royal Artillery and after training he was posted to an
Anti-Aircraft Regiment.   John served in the UK during the Blitz.

He married - Olive May Orchard at St. Martin's P.C. on the 15th August 1942
and they resided at 51 Buck Lane, opposite the Buck P.H.

Posted to an Anti-Aircraft Regiment attached to the 1st Infantry Division
in Tunisia, serving in the North Africa Campaign

John was originally buried in the Baharine Farm Cemetery, but later
re-interred in the Medjez-el-Bab Cemetery.

His father John died 11/01/1963 and his mother Anne died 01/11/1954..    
His brother George died 09/02/1973.
