Born during the September quarter 1919 in the Weobly R.D. - ref: 6a/758, the son of Ernest & Margaret Ann Yapp (nee Bayliss). 1921 Census - Batch Cottages, Sarnesfield, Herefordshire. Son - aged: 2 - born: Herefordshire. Head of household - Ernest Yapp - Married - aged: 40 - occ: Cowman for Cieton Fareles (Farmer) - born: Herefordshire. Also Margaret Ann Yapp - Wife - aged: 41 - occ: Household Duties - born: Herefordshire. Plus 2 elder siblings. 1939 National Registration - No Trace which would indicate that he was already serving in the armed services. His parents were then residing at Stockley Cottage Hay-on-Wye. His wife to be - Joyce Peers was residing at 50 Ashfield Road, Sale, which was to become the family home.. Ellen Peers - Head of household - Born on the 16th Junme 1883 - Widow - occ: Unpaid Domestic Duties. Joyce Peers - Born on the 11th March 1920 - Single - occ: Gowns Shop Assistant. Dorothy Astbury - Born on the 7th March 1913 - Single - occ: Electrical Engineering (Transformers). Married Joyce Peers during the September quarter 1944 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/568. Member of St.Paul's P.C. 1st Airbourne Brigade was not to be immediately involved in the attack on the primary objective, but to guard the landing and drop zones for the 4th Parachute Brigade's arrival the next day. 1st Bn Border Rgt were to defend Renkum Heath, but by the 18th they were being overrun by units of Generalleutnant von Tettau. Information from his comrade - Sgt E.J.Peters who was with him when he was killed and remembers him saying, "I am a Jew and will be shot if captured" and Pte Owen Delvoir.
