Flying with 617 Sqn, they took off at 1059hrs from R.A.F. Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire, in a Mosquito Mk.VI, No. NT202 AJ-N for a training flight. They had completed three runs over the Wainfleet bombing range and at 11.12hrs whilst pulling up in a climbing turn to port the starboard engine failed, followed immediately by structural failure of the starboard wing. Out of control, the Mosquito plunged into shallow water by the foreshore. The 2 crew were killed - the pilot F/O Duffy D.F.C. RCAF had just completed his operational tour and is buried in Harrowgate (Stonefall) Cemetery. | |||
