Born on the 2nd September 1884, the birth being registered during the September quarter 1884 in he Erpingham R.D. - ref: 4a/70, the son of Frederick Samuel & Mary Hunter (nee Denny). Baptised at Cromer on the 23rd November 1884. 1891 Census - Bowden House, 10, Jetty Street, Cromer, Erpingham, Norfolk. Son - aged: 6 - Scholar - born: Cromer, Norfolk. Head of household - Frederick S. Hunter - Married - aged: 30 - occ: Coach Painter - born: Cromer, Norfolk. Also - Mary Hunter - Wife - aged: 33 - born: Fellbrigg, Norfolk. Plus - 1 younger brother and 1 visitor. His father died in 1897. 1901 Census - Stamford New Road, Altrincham. Nephew - aged: 16 - born: Cromer, Norfolk. Head of household - Charles H. Skipper - Married - aged: 49 - occ: Master Flour Confectioner - born: Sutton, Suffolk. Also - Mary Skipper - Wife - aged: 45 - born: Fellbrigg, Norfolk. Plus a number of his siblings and visitors. Resided at 9 Belmont Road, Ashton upon Mersey. 1911 Census - No Trace. His mother, Mary died 24/11/1911. Organist & Choirmaster at the Borough Rd Wesleyan Chapel since 1904. Employed for 19 years by Sir Jacob Behrens & Sons, Shippers, Manchester. Married Eleanor Arden Slack, the second daughter of Thomas Slack on the 6th April 1910 in the Wesleyan Chapel Bank Street, Altrincham. The marriage being registered during the June quarter 1910 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/374. Enlisted in January 1917 and drafted to the front in May 1917. Commemorated on the private family gravestone in Hale Cemetery. M.I. - "Thy purpose Lord, we cannot see, but all is well, that's done by thee". Left a widow and two daughters aged 6 years and 2 years. Death reported in the 29th June 1917 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.. Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1918. Probate granted at Chester to his widow on the 27th July 1917. His address given as Brook Villa, Brook Avenue, Timperley. His Estate was valued at £356. 5s. 0d. The 10/06/1921 edition of the Altrincham Guardian reported the unveiling of the oak framed incised bronze war memorial tablet in the porch of the Altrincham Wesleyan Church. | |||
