Roll of Honour and the Christ Church, Timperley War Memorial.

Born during the December quarter 1878 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/187,
the only son of James & Mary Woodcock.

1881 Census - 18 Bentley's Buildings, Altrincham.   Son - aged: 2 - born:
Altrincham.   Head of household - James Woodcock - Married - aged:37 - occ:
Agricultural Labourer - born: Tattenhall, Cheshire.  Also - Mary Woodcock -
Wife - aged: 32 - born: Manchester.  Plus 4 elder sisters, a cousin and an
uncle.

1891 Census - 20 Bentley's Buildings, Altrincham.   Son - aged: 12 -
Scholar - born: Dunham.   Head of household - James Woodcock - Married -
aged:47 - occ: Farm Labourer - born: Tarvin, Cheshire.  Also - Mary
Woodcock - Wife - aged: 43 - born: Manchester.  Plus 2 elder and 2 younger
sisters.

1901 Census - 20 Bentley's Buildings, Altrincham.   Son - aged: 22 - occ:
Gardener (Day) - born: Dunham.   Head of household - James Woodcock -
Married - aged:57 - occ: Gardener (Day) - born: Tarvin, Cheshire.  Also -
Mary Woodcock - Wife - aged: 52 - born: Manchester.  Plus 1 elder sister.

1911 Census - 18 St. Mary's Road, Moston, Manchester.   Boarder - aged: 32
- occ: Landscape Gardener - born: Altrincham.  He was a boarder with his
sister and brother in law - William & Sarah Hamnett (nee Woodcock) and
family.  His parents were then residing at Timperley Hall Farm Yard,
Stockport Road, Timperley.  His father - James was aged: 67 and employed as
a Farm Labourer and his mother - Mary was aged: 62 and employed as a
Charwoman. 

His father died on the 8th July 1914, aged: 70.   His mother died in 1915,
aged; 67.

A member of Timperley Golf Club, he enlisted in 3rd Bn, Cheshire Rgt in
August 1914.

Killed by the bursting of a rifle grenade fired from the German trenches -
death was instantaneous.

Death reported in the 04/06/1915 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.   His
mother and sister posted a 'Roll of Honour' notice in the 11/06/1915
edition of the Manchester Evening News.
