Flying with 226 Sqn they took off at 1346 hrs from R.A.F. Tangmere in a Blenheim Mk.IV, No. Z7494 MQ-Z for a bombing operation against a tanker reported at Le Havre. They were shot down by Me 109s in the target area. Total losses 3 crew. This was a particularly bad day for Blenheims of No. 2 Group - from a total of 24 aircraft despatched, 7 were lost and not one member of any of the crews survived. Commemorated on he family gravestone in Sale Cemetery - K.691, which states that he went missing at Le Havre, France. His father died on the 22nd June 1952, aged: 64 and his mother died on the 14th February 1978, aged: 87. | |||
