Enlisted at Lymm - No 7307. Queen's Westminster Rifles Bn. Received
the two basic war medals - BWM & the VM, indicating that he did not go to
France until 1916.

From the 10th February 1916, the 16th Battalion, London Regiment were part
of 169th Brigade in 56th (London) Division. As he is buried to the
south-west of Arras, he was undoubtedly positioned in the Arras area for
the impending Battle of Arras, a British offensive that was to commence on
the 9th April 1917. As he died of wounds, it is not possible to determine
the date upon which he had been wounded, but 20 men from his Battalion died
on the 8th - the day before the start of the Battle, so it is most likely
that he died on the same day that he was wounded???

This is the brother of Francis Allaby Tunstall, who also died on active
service. Both brothers are listed on the Knutsford (High Legh) Memorial,
but only Francis Allaby is listed on St. John's, High Legh Roll of Honour.
For some strange reason William is not commemorated at High Legh

M.I. - "And with the morn those angel faces smile which I have loved long
since and lost awhile".
