Listed as W. Maurice Tripp on Cenotaph and on St. George's Mem and as Maurice Tripp on the Roll of Honour. An architect, he twice received distinction from the Altrincham Society of Architects. He designed the glass awning of the Altrincham Picture Theatre. He was a chorister at St. George's Church. He was an amateur actor. Enlisted in August 1914 and was killed in action in High Wood, France. Public Schools Bn. The 03/03/1916 edition of the local newspaper reports that his eldest brother Lionel H. Tripp - the eldest son of - late of "Fieldgarth" , The Mount, Altrincham (now in Hale) is now in St. (Queen ?) Mary's Military Hospital, Whalley with severe gunshot wounds received in February. It further reports that they were both in training at Mansfield and Salisbury and had been on active service since Novemebr 1915. Lionel was employed by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Bank, Altrincham Branch. By the 04/08/1916 his brother had left St. or Queen Mary's Hospital and was convalescing at Baxenden. Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1917, which states that he lived at Ashley Road, Hale. |
