Born on the 12th November 1911, the birth being registered during the December quarter 1911 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/311, the only son of Frank & Sarah Smallwood (nee Pearson). Married Hilda Tyrrell during the March quarter 1939 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/332. 1939 National Registration - 8 Moss View, Macclesfield, Cheshire. Gilbert Smallwood - Born on the 12th November 1911 - Married - occ: Bricklayer. Hilda Smallwood - Born on the 23rd July 1915 - Married - occ: Unpaid Domestic duties. Frank Smallwood - Born on the 4th July 1939 - Under School Age. In 1939, his parents were residing at 21 Lloyd Street, Altrincham - his father was also a Bricklayer. Gilbert & Hilda also had a daughter - Joan Smallwood born in 1940. CWGC - Buried in Dilsen Churchyard (to the rear of the church, middle left). M.I. "Sleep well Until His Kingdom comes. The ransomed of the Lord Shall then Return". There are five Commonwealth servicemen buried in this churchyard - 1 RAF - 1 RCAF and three ERY men. Commemorated on the private family gravestone in Altrincham (Hale) Cemetery. His grand father (who died in 1905) was the landlord of the Waggon & Horses P.H. in Altrincham. Left a widow and children. His widow married Arnold Roscoe in 1955. |
