Born during the June quarter 1890 in the Manchester R.D. - ref: 8d/247, the son of Frederick & Fanny Stokes (nee Burgess). 1901 Census - 25 Stockport Road, Altrincham Son - aged: 10 - born: Manchester. Head of household - Frederick Stokes - Married - aged: 37 - oc: Publican - born: Wolverhampton. Also - Fanny Stokes - Wife - aged: 36 - occ: Helping in Business - born: Lymm. Plus 3 younger siblings, a nurse and 1 servant. Attended Seamons Moss School and Lymm Grammar School. 1911 Census - 181 Manchester Road, Altrincham (Cheshire Cheese Hotel). Son - aged: 21 - occ: Clerk at Dynamo Engineering Works - born: Manchester. Head of household - Frederick Stokes - Married - aged: 46 - ooc: Beer and Wine Retailer - born: Wolverhampton. Also - Fanny Stokes - Wife - aged: 46 - occ: Helping in Business - born: Lymm. Plus 2 younger siblings and 2 servants. Enlisted in August 1914. Attached to the HQ of the Army Service Corps. MIC - states that he was posted to France on the 24th September 1915. Awarded the 15 Star, the BWM & the VM. Killed on the 3rd day of the Battle of the Somme 1916 in the Thiepval Wood area.
