Born during the June quarter 1896 in the Warrington R.D. - ref: 8c/264, the
son of John Herbert & Sarah Ann Sant 

1901 Census - 6 Lord Street, Warrington, Lancashire.    Son - aged: 5 -
born: Warrington.   Head of household - John Herbert Sant - Married - aged:
27 - occ: General Carter - born: Warrington.   Also Sarah Ann Sant - Wife -
aged: 30 - born: Altrincham.   Plus 3 siblings.

Attended Edleston Road School, Crewe. 

1911 Census -   26 Darlington Street, Middlewich, Cheshire.    Son - aged:
15 - occ: Telegraph Messenger - born: Latchford, Cheshire.    Head of
household - John Herbert Sant - Married - aged: 37 - occ: County Police
Constable - born: Latchford, Cheshire.   Also Sarah Ann Sant - Wife - aged:
41 - born: Altrincham.   Plus 2 siblings.

The family must have moved to Altrincham soon after this, as his father was
a Police Sergeant at the Altrincham Police Station, with Joseph being
employed as a Postman at Altrincham.

WO 363 - Attested at Altrincham on the 8th December 1915 and mobilized ih
the 3rd Bn. Cheshire Rgt. on the 3rd January 1916.   He was aged: 19 years,
9 months and a Postman by trade.   His residence was: The Police Station,
Altrincham.   He was 5 feet 8 inches in height.  His chest measurements
were 31 1/2 inches to 34 inches.   He weighed 119 lb and was of 'Fair'
physical development.   

Transferred to the 8th Bn. Chehire Rgt on the 30th June 1916 and posted to
India in July 1916.    He embarked at Bombay on the 4th August 1916. 
Arriving at Basra on the 10th August 1916.   Admitted into the Isolation
Hospital at Basra at 22.00 hrs on the 8th September 1916 where he was
immediately infused (Saline & Alkaline???).   At 04.00 hrs on the 10th, he
was given Digitalis by injection.   During the day of the 10th September
1916, he was showing signs of Uraemia (build up of toxins in the blood). 
Recorded as not passing any urine and was given more Digitalis and Caffein
hypodemically, plus saline.  He died of Cholera on the morning of the 12th
September.

Pension Records - Dependent - Mrs. Sarah A. Sant  (Mother), 81 Cheadle
Road, Cheadle Hulme.   Awarded a weekly pension of 2/- per week w.e.f.
the26th June 1917.

Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1917, which states
that he lived at the Bowdon Police Station.

SDGW lists his number as 3457.

His elder brother - Private Arthur Sant, had been wounded on the 27th
July.

By 1917, his parents had moved to 81 Cheadle Road, Cheadle Hulme.,
Stockport.
