Born during the December quarter 1881 in the Manchester R.D. - ref: 8d/292, the son of Thomas & Sarah Stewart (nee Hamilton). 1891 Census - 22 Church Street, Harpurhey, Manchester. Son - aged: 9 - Scholar - born: Manchester. Head of household - Thomas Stewart - Married - aged: 38 - occ: Clerk to a Chemical Company - born: Bury, Lancashire.. Also - Sarah Stewart - Wife - aged: 37 - born: Muggington, Derbyshire. Plus 1 younnger sister. 1901 Census - 129 Shaw Heath, Stockport, Chehire. Son - aged: 19 - occ: Clerk at India Rubber Works - born: Manchester. Head of household - Thomas Samuel Stewart - Married - aged: 48 - occ: Accountant - born: Hlcombe Brook, Bury, Lancashire.. His father - Thomas Stewart, died on the 29th January 1919, aged: 67 years and his Mother - Sarah Stewart, died on the 19th March 1918, aged: 65 years The London Blitz was in full swing, when the enemy's night attack on London was even greater than had recently been sustained. Bombs were dropped in almost every part of the London Region, heaviest in Groups 1,2 & 3 (inner London, north of the Thames). A large number of Incendiary bombs were dropped, causing many fires and some damage was done to the railways. It was estimated that 110 aircraft took part in the raid. In London 70 people were killed, 200 seriously injured and 150 slightly injured. CWGC - Of 44 Bayham Street, W.1. Son of Thomas and Sarah Stewart, of Marsland Road, Brooklands, Cheshire. Died at Y.M.C.A., Great Russell Street. M.I. - Also their beloved son - Percy - killed in London during an air raid - 24th September 1940, in his 59th year. |
