Born during the March quarter 1920 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/357. Wireless Operator. Flying with 107 Sqn (2 Group) they took off from RAF Wattisham in a Blenheim Mk4 - number L8747 OM on a reconnaissance mission to obtain photographs of the recent bombing of Hörnum on the Island of Sylt, Germany, when they were intercepted by German fighters and shot down in the target area. The crew members were - Sgt. D.W.G. Nichols (pilot); Sgt G.H. Stiles and LAC J.B. Roberts - all three were killed. |
