Born at Bistre (part of Buckley), Hawarden, Flintshire during the June quarter 1887 in the Holywell R.D. - ref: 11b/239, the son of John & Jane Rogers (nee Davies). 1891 Census - Lane End, Mold, Bistree, Flintshire. Son - aged: 4 - Scholar - born: Bistree, Flintshire. Head of household - John Rogers - Married - aged: 37 - occ: Brick????? - born: Hope, Flintshire. Also - Anne (sic) Rogers - Wife - aged: 39 - born: Hawarden, Flintshire. Plus 2 elder sisters and 2 elder brothers. 1901 Census - Mountain Road, Buckley, Hawarden, Flintshire. Son - aged: 13 - occ: Colliery Labourer (Bank) - born: Buckley, Flintshire. Head of household - John Rogers - Married - aged: 47 - occ: Tobacconist & Fancy Dealer - born: Penymynydd, Flintshire. Also - Jane Rogers - Wife - aged: 50 - born: Buckley, Flintshire. Plus 2 elder brothers, one of whom was a Blacksmith's Labourer. 1911 Census - No Trace. Married Cecily Winifred Shawcross during the September quarter 1913 in the Barton upon Irwell R.D. - ref: 8c/1384. Cecily, born: 1890 was employed as a Mica Builder. She was the daughter of John & Mary Elizabeth Shawcross of 14 Jackson Street, Stretford. John being employed as an Electrical Coil Winder. The CCCXXXI (2/II East Lancs) Brigade, RFA was part of the Artillery for the 66th Division. Killed during the German Spring Offensive 1918 that commenced on the 21st March 1918. M.I. - "God be with you, till we meet again". Post War his widow lived at Manor Farm, Humphrey Lane, Urmston. |
