Born during the September quarter 1885 in the Barton upon Irwell R.D. -
ref: 8c/638, the son of Arthur Edward & Eliza Jane Rhodes (nee Salmon).

1891 Census - 24 Parkfield Street, Withington, Manchester.   Son - aged: 5
- born: Flixton.   Head of household - Arthur Rhodes - Married - aged: 33 -
occ: Banker's Clerk - born: Glossop, Derbyshire.   Also - Eliza J. Rhodes -
Wife - aged: 30 - born: Isle of Man.   Plus 2 younger siblings, 4 boarders
and 2 domestic servants.

1901 Census - 24 Parkfield Street, Moss Side, Manchester.   Son - aged: 15
- occ: Clerk in Lace Warehouse - born: Flixton.  Head of household - Janey
Rhodes - Married - aged: 40 - occ: Boarding House Keeper - born: Isle of
Man.   Plus  2 younger siblings and 3 boarders.

1911 Census - No Trace.

Married Clara Valentine Browne at All Hallows in the Wall, London on the
20th March 1913, the marriage being registered during the March quarter
1913 in the London City R.D. - ref: 1c/3.  They produced two children -
Dora Grace Rhodes, born: 9th January 1914 and John Stanley, born: 14th
September 1915.

WO 363 - Enlisted at Finchley, London on the 12th December 1915.  He was
aged: 30 and employed as a Foreign Stamp Dealer.   His address was given as
45 Windsor Road, Church End, Finchley.   He was 5 feet 9 3/4 inces in
height and weighed 140 lb.  His chest measurements were 32 - 36 1/2. 
Transferred to the 11th Infantry Reserve Brigade at Prees Heath on the 25th
November 1916.  Whilst statiioned at Prees Heath he over stayed his pass
from midnight on the 27th until 1.30 pm on the 28th December 1916.  He was
ordered to forfeit 14 days pay.

Posted to France on the 17th January 1917.  Wounded and died on the same
day.   His widow was still residing at that address in 1919 when she was
informed that his body had been exhumed (not stated from where) and
reinterred in the Guard's Cemetery.  His widow received a pension of 28/-
per week.
