Born on the 1st June 1891, the birth being registered during the September quarter 1891 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/162, the only son of John Frederick & Edith Ellen Price (nee Glover). He was baptised on the 5th July 1891 at St. John's P.C. Baguley His mother - Edith Ellen Pric died on the 10th February 1898, aged: 35. 1901 Census - 137 Marsland Road, Sale. Son - aged: 9 - born: Sale. Head of household: John F. Price - Widower - aged: 39 - occ: Solicitor & Coroner - born: Stretford. Plus Joanna J.E. Price - Single - Sister - occ: Housekeeper - born: Sale. Plus 2 domestic servants (Cook & Housemaid). Educated at Malvern College & Manchester Gramnmar School. 1911 Census - Hawthorne Grove, Wilmslow, Cheshire. Grandson - aged: 19 - occ: Solicitor's Articled Clerk Head of household - Elizabeth Price - Widow - aged: 74 - occ: Independent Means - born: Wigan, Lancashire. Plus 2 maternal aunts and his younger half-brother.(eldest residing with his father) and 1 domestic servant. His father has now remarried and is residing at St. Aubyn, Cecil Avenue, Ashton upon Mersey. His father - John Frederick Price died on the 10th March 1912. Employed as a Solicitor, articled to Mr. Brownson, the Town Clerk to Hyde District Council. Enlisted at Manchester on the 3rd September 1914 and posted After training he was posted to France , leaving Folkestone on the 8th November 1915. His Officer, Captain W. Elstob wrote that he was killed on sentry duty in the trenches. "I was standing at his side and he practically fell into my arms. He was killed instantly by a sniper's bullet through the head, falling backwards without a murmer". Probate granted at London on the 20th December 1916 to Katharine Price (widow). His Estate was valued at £450. 16s. 8d. Death reported in the 30/06/1916 edition of the Altrincham Guardian. Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1917. M.I. - "Credo in carnis resurectionen et vitam ae ternan". |
