Born during the March quarter 1895 in the Runcorn R.D. - ref: 8a/234, the only child of George & Caroline Pendlebury (nee Jolley). 1901 Census - 5 Mason Street, Runcorn, Cheshire. Son - aged: 6 - born: Runcorn, Cheshire. Head of household - George Pendlebury - Married - aged: 33 - occ: Ship Engineer - born: Runcorn, Cheshire. Also Caroline Pendlebury - Wife - aged: 32 - born: Runcorn. Attended Victoria Road, School, Runcorn. 1911 Census - 23 Blantyre Street, Runcorn, Cheshire. Son - aged: 16 - occ: Carter - born: Runcorn. Head of household - George Pendlebury - Married - aged: 43 - occ: Engine Driver - born: Runcorn, Cheshire. Also Caroline Pendlebury - Wife - aged: 42 - born: Runcorn. Joined the Cheshire Constabulary on the 17th October 1914. Enlisted at Frodsham. Death reported in the 27/10/1916 edition of the Altrincham Guardian. He was of large stature and over 6 feet tall. Originally employed by the Runcorn & Widnes Co-operative Society, then the Dredging Department of the Manchester Ship Canal, before joining the Cheshire Constabulary on the 17th October 1914. For some time, he was a Police Constable at Altrincham. The newspaper report states that he was in the Cheshire Rgt. Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1917, which states that he was with Altrincham Police Force. Commemorated on the Cheshire Constabulary War Memorial and in their War Memorial Book. |
