Born on the 11th December 1895, the birth being registered during the March quarter 1896 in the Manchester R.D. - ref: 8d/199, the son of George & Mary R.A. Price 1901 Census - 53 Ancoats Street, Manchester. Son - aged: 5 - b orn: Manchester. Head of household - George Price - Married - aged; 45 - occ: Japanner - born: Liverpool. Also - Mary Price - Wife - aged: 45 - born: Manchester. Plus 3 elder siblings. Attended Manchester Central School. 1911 Census - 92 Derbyshire Lane, Stretford. Son - aged: 19 - born: Manchester. Head of household - George Price - Married - aged; 555 - occ: Japanner - born: Liverpool. Also - Mary R.A. Price - Wife - aged: 55 - born: Manchester. Plus 3 elder siblings. Member of the Stretford Football Club. Employed as a Bank Clerk with Lloyds Bank. Trained as a Cadet in Ireland achieved qualification as a 1st Class Bomber & Signaller WO339/76264 - Aged 19 years 11 months when he attested at Manchester on the 9th December 1915. He was embodied at Ashton under Lyne on the 3rd March 1916. He was 5 feet 5 3/4 inches in height, his cheast measurements were 32 1/2 - 36 inches. He weighed 126 lb, pale blue eyes and dark brown hair. Left foot flat footed. Serving with the 14th T.R.B. (Training Reserve Battalion). Employed as a Bank Clerk when he applied for a Commission on the 4th September 1916. Posted to Brockton Camp on the 11th Septrember 1916. Commissioned into the East Yorkshire Rgt on the 29th February 1917. His elder brother, 2nd Lt. Edwin Price was severely wounded on the Somme in July 1916.Death reported in the 11/05/1917 edition of the Altrincham Guardian. Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1918. M.I. - "Our boy in our thoughts, first, last and always". His widowed mother was still residing at 92 Derbyshire Lane in 1939. |
