The son of Eric & Hilda Platts (nee Lingard). The family resided at 93 Framingham Road, Sale. Attended Sale High School and Manchester Grammar School. Continued his education at Manchester University and gained a B.Sc., Hons. (Manchester). He was a keen Scout and an Assistant Scoutmaster for the Sale High School Troop. Joined the RAF in 1942. Navigator, killed in an air accident. Aircraft crashed into the sea about 180 miles north of Bengazi - no trace was ever found.
