Born during the December quarter 1896 in the Barton upon Irwell R.D. - ref:
8c/683, the eldest child of Samuel & Sarah Ellen Peel (nee Taylor).

1901 Census - 4, Mount Street, Swinton.   Son - aged: 4 - born: Swinton.   
Head of household - Samuel Peel - Married - aged: 33 - occ: Cotton Sizer -
born: Swinton.  Also - Sarah E. Peel - Wife - aged: 34 - born: Rainsough,
Lancashire.   Plus 1 boarder.

1911 Census - 13 Greenfield Terrace, Flixton.    Son - aged: 14 - occ:
Cotton Weaver - born: Swinton.   Head of household - Samuel Peel - Married
- aged: 44 - occ: Cotton Dyer - born: Swinton.  Also - Sarah E. Peel - Wife
- aged: 34 - born: Rainsough, Lancashire.   Plus 1 younger sister. 
(Rainsough is situated between Swinton and Prestwich).   Samuel & Sarah had
three children, but lost one.

I am most grateful to Neil Drum & Pete Thomas for allowing me to use
verbatim the following extract from their superb 623 page book "A District
at War - Irlam & Cadishead's Part in the Great War", an incredibly detailed
and comprehensive book that is not only a credit to them, but a magnificent
memorial to the WW1 men of that district.

Served with the 8th Battalion, The King's Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment),
65th Brigade, 22nd Division.

Arthur was the son of Samuel and Sarah Ellen Peel of 13 Greenfield Terrace,
Flixton.   He lived in Flixton and worked in Irlam at the CWS Soap Works.  
He enlisted in the King's Own with a number of men from Irlam and Cadishead
at some point in either October or November 1914 and was posted to the 8th
Battalion.   He disembarked in France on 27th September 1915.

The inscription on his grave reads "Peace Perfect Peace".   Arthur is also
commemorated on the Irlam Soap Works panel on the CWS Memorial at Balloon
Street, Manchester and incorrectly named as "A.T. Reel" on the War Memorial
in St Michael's Church, Church Road, Flixton.   He is not listed on the
Irlam and Cadishead War Memorial.    Medal Entitlement: 1915 Star Trio.
