Born during the December quarter 1892 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/174,
the younger son of Alfred & Caroline Oakley (nee Pickering).  Baptised at
St. Martin's Parish Church Ashton upon Mersey on the 18th December 1892.

In 1891, his parents were residing at Rivershill, Ashton Upon Mersey with
his elder sister - Beatrice Mary Oakley.    His father - Alfred Oakley was
aged: 27 - occ: Plumber - born: Manchester.    His mother - Caroline Oakley
was aged: 26 - born: Warrington.  He was probably born at this address.

1901 Census - 19 Burlington Street, Chorlton, Manchester.    Grandson -
aged: 8 - born: Sale.    Head of household - Mary Oakley - Married - aged:
62 - born: Conway, Carnarvonshire.   Also - Alfred Oakley (his father) -
listed as single - aged: 37 - occ: Plumber's Clerk - born: Manchester.  
Plus an uncle and his 11 year old sister - Beatrice Mary Oakley.

His mother - Caroline Oakley was residing with her brother in law - Arthur
Oakley and his wife.    Sister in law - Married - aged: 36 - born:

old sister - Beatrice Mary Oakley.
His father was then residing at 21 Wilton Street, Chorlton on Medlock,

Married Ellen Mary Hiles during the March quarter 1916 in the Stockport
R.D. - ref: 8a/111.  They set up home at Northgate Road, Edgeley,
Stockport.

John enlisted into the Royal Fusiliers at the end of 1915, or the start of
1916.    His mother - Caroline died in 1916 - aged: 51.    

Private Oakley died in the Somme area during the final German offensive in
March 1918.

Although born at Ashton upon Mersey, his family moved to Chorlton, then
Longsight, Manchester.
