Born during the June quarter 1889 in the Barton upon Irwell R.D. - ref: 8c/705, the son of Thomas & Mary (Pollie) Owen (nee Green). 1891 Census - 6 Poplar Road, Streford. Son - aged: 1 - born: Stretford. Head of household - Thomas Owen - Married - aged: 36 - occ: Labourer - born: Stretford. Also Mary Owen - Wife - aged: 29 - born: Ardwick, Manchester. Plus 3 elder siblings. 1901 Census - 27 Trafford Grove, Stretford. Son - aged: 11 - born: Stretford. Head of household - Thomas Owen - Married - aged: 46 - occ: Provision Warehouseman - born: Stretford. Also Mary Owen - Wife - aged: 39 - born: ???????, Manchester. Plus 5 siblings. His Mother - Mary Owen died on the 18th January 1909 - aged: 46 1911 Census - 40 Trafford Grove, Stretford. Son - aged: 21 - occ: Bench Hand (Tool Making) at Electrical Works - born: Stretford. Head of household - Thomas Owen - Widower - aged: 56 - occ: Provision Warehouseman at Wholesale Provision Merchants - born: Stretford. Plus 3 siblings. Married Mary Ellen (Nellie) Brookes, during the March quarter 1916 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/343, the daughter of John Frederick & Hannah Brookes. Mary was born at Sale in 1891. In 1911, she was listed as a Domestic Servant, residing with her grandmother at 193 Northenden Road, Sale. Employed at the Stretford Gas Works. MIC - states that he received only the BWM & VM. Indicating that he did not go to France until 1916. SDGW states that he died of wounds. Stretford Cemetery records state that he died at King George Hospital, Lambeth, London, which together with the family grave M.I. would indicate that he died of wounds received in combat in France. Buried 02/11/1916 by Messrs. H. Clegg & Sons, City Road, Chester (???) - Burial No. 7,800. The private family gravestone in Stretford Cemetery states that he died of wounds received in France. His father, Thomas died 22/01/1939 aged 34 and his mother, Mary died 18/01/1909 aged 46.
