Born during the December quarter 1877 in the Lambeth R.D. - ref: 1d/481, the son of Thomas Ambrose & Alice Catherine Neill (nee Carstairs). 1881 Census - 32 St. Augustine Terrace, Halifax, Yorkshire. Son - aged: 3 - born: London, Middlesex. Head of household - Thomas Neill - Married - aged: 36 - occ: Insurance Agent - born: London, Middlesex. Also - Catherine Neill - Wife - aged: 32 - born: London, Middlesex. Plus 4 sisters. 1891 Census - 8 Park View Terrace, Oldham, Lasncashire. Son - aged: 13 - occ: Shop Assistant in Boot Shop - born: Shoreditch, London. Head of household - Kate Neill - Married - aged: 46 - born: London, Middlesex. Plus 4 sisters. No trace of his father. 1901 Census - 6 Norseman Street, Chorlton, Manchester. Son - aged: 23 - occ: Tea Merchant's Assistant - born: London, Middlesex. Head of household - Kate Neill - Widow - aged: 60 - born: London, Middlesex. On the evening of the 2nd September 1917, 'A' Company which Thomas was part of moved up to the front line to act as work parties. At 21.30 hrs at the Menin Gate, they met a guide who led them towads their destination. As they were marching along the road to Potijze a shell landed amongst them injuring 13 men, including Thomas who soon after died of his wounds. His mother continued to live in Ashton upon Mersey until her death in 1924, aged: 84. Pension Records - Claimant - Mrs. Catherine Neill, who died on the 12th May 1924.
