H.M.S. Cicala was dive-bombed off the coast of Hong Kong by the Japanese Army Air Force on the 21/12/41. It was one of the early 'Insect' class river gun-boats, built between 1915 & 1916, of which 10 were still in service during W.W.2. (there were 4 later ones built 1938/40). They had a displacement of 625 tons and a complement of 55 personnel. Mentioned in Despatches. Died as a PoW in Japan. Commemorated on the private family gravestone in Urmston Cem. His father, Ernest died 29/05/1953 aged 66 years and his mother, Felicia died 10/10/1962 aged 73 years. |
