Born during the March quarter 1893 in the Barton upon Irwell R.D. - ref: 8c/757, the son of John William & Alice Elizabeth Neild (nee Hutchings). 1901 Census - 14 Pinnington Lane, Stretford. Son - aged: 6 - born: Stretford. Head of household - John W. Neild - Married - aged: 33 - occ: Horse Keeper - born: Stretford. Also - Alice E. Neild - Wife - aged: 30 - born: Bridport, Dorset. Plus 3 siblings. Attended Victoria Park School, Stretford. 1911 Census - 14 Pinnington Lane, Stretford. Son - aged: 16 - occ: Apprentice Driller Iron - born: Stretford. Head of household - Alice Neild - Widow - aged: 42 - occ: Charwoman - born: Bridport, Devonshire. Plus 4 siblings and 1 boarder. Employed at Metro-Vics. Married Alice Heywood during the December quarter 1915 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/453. Enlisted in 1915. Death reported in the 22/11/1918 edition of the Altrincham Guardian. At the time of his death, his wife was living at 2 Baker St, Timperley. Died at Baker Street, Timperley ??? - I think that this was his "burial from" address, certainly his "home" address. According to the local newspaper, he died at the Lord Derby War Hospital, Warrington of Bronchial Pneumonia (presumably brought on by Influenza ?) Buried 16/11/1918. CWGC Headstone. M.I. - "Nothing in my Hand I Bring, Simply to thy Cross I Cling". Surname spelt 'Nield' on Christ Church Memorial - 'Neild' on his gravestone and on the Altrincham Roll of Honour. Also commemorated as such on the Victoria Park School Memorial, St. Matthew's P.C. Memorial and the Metro-Vics Memorial. Commemorated on the Altrincham Town Memorial, the Stretford Town Memorial and the Stretford WW1 Memorial Book. Left a widow and one child (James W. Neild - b.1917). His widow married Matthew Wilson Andrew during the June quarter 1921 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/433. |
